About Lisa
Lisa Fishman comes to VOS with an extensive background as a singer, actress, songwriter, recording artist and voice over artist, as well as a teacher and director of voice, acting and musical theater. Lisa has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe, starred in Off-Broadway, Regional Musical Theater and Yiddish Theater productions, sung her original music in theaters and clubs from coast to coast, sung and recorded with several of the country's top 'Klezmer' bands (aka: Eastern European Jewish music), performed for children on television and record, acted in TV and film, worked as a voice over artist in animation, commercials and dubbing - and even voiced a dancing toy called My Yiddishe Bubbe! Lisa also has an extensive background as a private voice instructor, audition and performance coach for young people, as well as a teacher, director, musical director and choreographer for musical theater. She holds a bachelor's degree in Musical Theater Studies, having received her education both at The American University in Washington, D.C, as well as New York University.
Some career highlights include playing Yente and Bobe Tsaytl in the Off-Broadway hit, "Fiddler on the Roof" in Yiddish, directed by Oscar and Tony winning actor/director, Joel Grey, performing and recording with Chicago’s renowned Maxwell Street Klezmer Band - with concerts around the world including Carnegie Hall, and sharing the stage with many of the greats, including violinist Itzhak Perlman, Mandy Patinkin, Theodore Bikel, Debbie Friedman, Mike Burstyn, Peter Yarrow, Dudu Fisher, Bruce Adler and more. Lisa can be heard singing a Yiddish love song in the 2003 film, "Dummy," starring Acadamy Award winner, Adrien Brody.
Lisa loves working with young people and is thrilled that her work in Jewish music and theater has led her to this new role at VOS. She hopes to bring a love for the songs and the musical prayers that she shares with VOS members young and old. Lisa believes that music is a divine medium that can assist us in connecting to G-d, teach, inspire and uplift, and she feels honored and grateful to be able to help serve as a conduit between the Congregation and Source.
